Franz Ferdinand is Everywhere.
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Franz Ferdinand is everywhere!!!
I can't escape them!!!
It all started a few months ago when EW had a tiny section on bands with historical names. They had three: Franz, Jethro Tull, and someone else. They had a teeny blurb on Franz which made them sound cool (something about New York audiophiles blogging their brains out, IIRC), so I downloaded two of their songs. The second was "Take Me Out," which I thought was mega-cool.
Then, EW had another blurb about Franz, this time a bit larger. It was in a section about bands that they really liked that had played at this concert down in the Country. I didn't worry. I was actually kind of happy about it.
A few weeks ago, I was watching the Chanel fashion show on style.com when I heard a very farmiliar tune: you guessed it, Take Me Out. It was followed by Come On Home (their second best song, IMHO). I started to worry a little, but brushed it off as just a music director having very good taste.
I was watching Pimp My Ride recently. You know how they have those "buzzworthy" snippets at the end of each show? I think you know who was on that day. Panic ensues.
As I went to sleep a few days later, I decided to tune into K-Rock, since I hadn't in a while, just to see if they were playing any good new music. Ppth, they were probably playing
Franz by now. So I tuned in AND THEY WERE PLAYING!!! Omg! That's when I started to get really depressed.
But no amount of exposure could prepare me for what I experienced today. I was reading EW, and of course, Franz Ferdinand was on the Must list. I was kind of expecting that. HOWEVER, while I was reading this VERY article (in front of the TV), I hear "blah blah blah Scottish Invasion". I look up. FRANZ FERDINAND WAS BEING PLAYED ON E! !!!!
When (not if, but
when) they get played on Z100, I will bang my head against the wall.
I suppose I shouldn't be angry. They are a good band; one that can actually live up to the enormous hype, and I suppose I should be happy that a fave band of mine is getting publicity, right? But it's sad because they're no longer my little secret, one that I can share with people I choose. Because everyone's already heard them.
You may as well listen to them now, before their assassination sparks World War III.
By the way, does anyone know any equally good, less-hyped bands? Thanks.
PS: While writing this, I decided to check and see if they were on June's Advance Warning, an event that I had suspected since May. My suspicions have been confirmed.
